Baby steps

After I’ve gotten the sewing machine par service à domicile, I set my mind the next day to put in practice everything the merchant taught me like winding the bobbin, inserting it, threading the machine and again raising the bobbin thread, mais aussi changing the snap on presser foot and the needles.

I didn’t really wanted to change the needle at the start –J’ai une sensation terrible et une tendance de m’éloigner de tout ce qui pique, les vaccins, les moustiques etc. Nevertheless, j’avais pas de choix. When I started trying different stitches at a time I felt it was getting a bit sloppy –Always a result of me not checking to see if the bobbin is threaded correctly. I threaded the machine repeatedly but jammed constantly –A lot of bobbin thread got stuck under the slide. So to get myself out of this mess, ma patience finie, I started pulling the thread hard when I heard something break. After staring a moment at part of the needle still hung up the needle clam, I was on all four to look for the other broken part of the needle. I think it was funny to break the first needle on the first day so I take it à la rigolade. Also, I’m sure it’s going to be a story to tell in several yrs. ‘ HEYY I BROKE THE NEEDLE WHEN I FIRST FIRST STARTED’. Preuve de débutante. Ouch.
I started to manipulate the sewing machine easier and got used to make buttonholes. I screwed up later while trying to make some decorative stitch patterns. Et ma patience finie, I stopped working.
I also established making plans for sewing stuff I designed like the tuxedo shirtdress, Peter Pan collar shirts and satin shorts. But then I opened Burda Style to read about the pattern making, cutting, and sewing and I just felt like throwing up – I wasn’t used to that particular style of writing and the terms employed were complicated to understand.  And that was the end of it.
Avec beaucoup de courage, I began to read Burda Style magazine for several more days to get accustomed and understand all what it says. And my efforts payed.

Black and White Picks

Repeatedly every year and again this season, Black is being associated with White. With Karl Lagerfeld famous black collar outfit and minimalist Phoebe Philo rumours moving to LV and besides Zara's fast fashion apparel collection of chic and sleek dresses, Black and White is proven to be a constant hit. Not only does Black makes people look slimmer, but White also shows off their summer tan.
Likewise, you can never be out of fashion wearing Black or White.

The reason why -yeah I never run out of excuses- I have not been updating the blog is because I was busy but I also wanted to wait for something interesting enough to write about. I bought a sewing machine, Singer 2868C. It took me a while to decide whether I wanted to get this machine or not. Because here, in Lebanon, when a merchant stops selling as much as he used to in the old times he increases the prices of his market. Du coup, the electronic sewing machine I wished to have, Singer Stylist 7258, accounted for more than ten times its original price. Le pauvre type said "3000$ and up" while I saw online purchases ranging from 200-400$. Moreover, I did not want to pay more for a sewing machine that just works fine. The guy's a complete fraud. But then again I had to weigh the pros. If I wanted to ameliorate and develop my skills, I need a lot of free time and that's what summer's for. Therefore, I got it. 345$. But, how much is it really worth?
