Lazy Wardrobe Alternative

Do you know that moment where you're about to close your eyes but you still have so much to do? That moment when you're lying down on your bed and you fall asleep for several minutes and then wake up in the same nightmare? To top it up, sleeping in summer is just not happening till I'm utterly worn out. Frankly speaking, i don't know if I'm going to be able to make it till the end of the post...
On that spirit, could you say what would better go with lazy than a boyfriend's jeans? I can't hear you but well, i'm going to say no! Again here in Lebanon it is late and i feel like the living dead... I'm most probably wearing the boyfriend's jeans tomorrow.. Speaking of which I'm going to show you the pair I bought recently from Gap on the occasion of its first opening in the country.
I wore it with a GAP white top, H&M leather vest, Havaianas, and Lancel leather bag.

Edamame or the meat substitute by excellence

"Edamame beans are a soybean that can be eaten fresh and are best known as a snack with a nutritional punch", The United States Department of Agriculture.

Are you a vegetarian or a vegan? Are you keen on soy products? Or are you of blood type A and you wish to follow a diet that suits you? Or else, are you interested in long-term weight loss? Alternatively, do you tend to overeat at meals? Do you want to reduce your high calorie intake? Then you must know “Edamame”, you don’t? Or even if you do, keep reading on you’re about to make a discovery worthy of my highest attention and courtesy.

First, what is Edamame?

Boiled Edamame in the pod with soy sauce.
Frozen bag of Edamame
Edamame are fresh green immature soybeans in their pod. As soon as they are picked, they are boiled and then quickly frozen. The preparation of Edamame owes its origin to Asian cuisine, more certainly that of Japan and China; it consists of boiling the pods lightly in salty water and to serve them after cooled down, with condiments such as soy sauce, rice wine, five-spice powder, and salt -being the most popular out of them. People typically eat Edamame with their hands, pinching the beans out of the pod into their mouth -note that the pods are inedible. Edamame is usually a snack or appetizer and complement for alcoholic beverages; but it also finds its way into soups, salads and main dishes. Grocery stores sell dry roasted Edamame and either frozen Edamame in the pod (unshelled) or out of the pod (shelled).

A 100g serving of Edamame contains 11g of protein, 10g of carbohydrates and 5g of fat for a total of 122calories (whose 44 calories come from fat), according to
Edamame is a great food choice for optimum health, rich in essential nutrients and low in sodium, this food is a good source of Dietary Fiber, Protein, Thiamin (vit. B1), Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus and Copper, and a very good source of Vitamin K, Folate and Manganese. Moreover, it has an estimated glycemic load of 4 over a typical target total of 100/day or less, in case of diabetes or metabolic syndrome.

Now, why is Edamame considered the meat substitute by excellence?

Edamame is a complete protein and contains all nine essential amino acids

Its total fat contents is restricted in saturated fat and lacks of Trans fat and cholesterol. On the other hand, it contains “good fats”, the polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat, which is proved to reduce triglycerides and bad cholesterol “LDL”, and raise good cholesterol “HDL”. Likewise, it holds the two essential fatty acids “omega-3(361mg/100g of Edamame) and “omega-6(1794mg/100g of Edamame).  All in all, these essential fatty acids have an anti-inflammatory effect, lower the risk of cancers and cardiovascular diseases, promote healthy brain function, and assist with skin and hair growth, bone development and metabolism. Note that the presence of these fats does not necessarily make Edamame fattening.
Bref, Edamame provides the necessary protein and it is a healthy alternative for protein sources without the saturated fat and cholesterol.

Would consuming Edamame make you lose weight?

A 100g serving of Edamame contains 5g of dietary fiber out of 10g of carbohydrate, this represent 21% of a person’s recommended daily amount of fiber. Edamame’s high fiber content is prone to weight loss because of its fullness impression. Similarly, high fiber foods take longer to digest so, it will keep hunger away for a while longer and will help you balance out your weight. In addition to that, A 2008 article in the journal "Current Opinion in Endrocrinology, Diabetes and Obesity" states that diets with slightly higher amounts of protein (11g/100g Edamame) and lower amounts of carbohydrates (10g/100g Edamame) can improve your body weight. Therefore, choosing Edamame instead of a high-in-carbohydrate and lower-in-protein snack will help you maintain a long-term weight loss.
Tip: If you tend to overeat at meals, have Edamame as a starter to feel full sooner.

  • ·         It is true that soybeans are one of the most genetically modified foods; however, there are no genetically engineered Edamame according to the National Soybean Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois. Simple, you can buy Edamame no worries on that front.
  • ·         Phytoestrogens in soybeans may help the prevention of certain cancers, yet, it should be avoided in large amounts because hormone-dependant tissue (breast, male genitalia) functions may be altered.

Heavenly Mouth-watering Crepes

I really can't explain to you my obsession for crepes -if you have been following up lately with me on twitter-, just sometimes it suddenly hits me, suddenly I'm craving crepes! This recipe emphasizes on all the appetitive fillings you can add to crepes whether it's hot or cold, sweet or salty, creamy or crunchy, with chocolate, ice cream, caramel, pistachio, hazelnuts, Oreo cookies, or accompanied by sauce béchamel mushroom and chicken, molten cheese and ham or turkey!!

Keep dreaming later, it's time you put this recipe pen to paper!

For 15 savory crepes, you need:

-4 Eggs and 1tsp of white vinegar to add with the eggs
-1 tbsp of Olive oil
-200g of flour (wheat or rice)
-1 tsp of vanilla extract
 tsp of fine salt
-50cl of full-cream ( or whole) milk
-2tbsp of drinking water
-1 tbsp of Grand Marnier (optional, but I say a must),
or use orange juice concentrate for non-alcoholic substitute*.

Please note that the above ingredients in red are best to avoid for all blood type diets, except for milk to blood type B.
The use of food processor is optional.

La preparation:

1- Mix the eggs to the white vinegar -we don't want eggs to smell after cooking- and add it with the fine salt and vanilla aroma to the flour.
2- Dilute with the milk and water.

Two vital ingredients: White vinegar and le Grand Marnier to come up with impeccable, odorless, and savory crepes!

3- Add the olive oil and Grand Marnier*.
4- Blend until smooth, then strain into a jug.
5- Cover and set aside to rest for 2 hours at room temperature.

Crepe texture.

6-  Dip a piece of paper towel in olive oil and use to brush base of a non-stick crepe pan over medium heat.
7- When hot, pour in just enough batter to cover the base. Tilt pan so batter covers base in a thin film.

Free-gluten (rice flour) crepes with Nutella and figs filling.

8- Cook crepe for about 1 minute until underside is golden, then flip to the other side and tart by adding the filing you want to have in the crepe and cook till golden or wait till its molten for cheese or chocolate.

To freeze cooked crepes, stack with greaseproof paper between each one. Wrap the the whole in plastic wrap.

Serenity feel

One thing that you can't find elsewhere than in the mountains is serenity and, peace -actually two things. Once you get there you cease to be the proactive maniac trying to catch up with time in the city or to live on the solemnity of stress and its impact on your productivity. It is a sort of unleashment that comes out in a quite interesting human quality metamorphosis: It is contemplative, pensive, and nearly philosophical that you become. Here I am enjoying a family Sunday lunch at Le Refuge in Mzaar Intercontinental hotel, the start of a fresh day that allows me to add some layers of clothes and to finally step in the camouflage trend.

My wardrobe: Tribal linen top and camouflage military jacket, both from Zara; vintage shorts; silver heart and lock necklace, Tiffany and co.

About the Blood Type Diet

From experience, I can say that I am a firm believer in the blood type diet. Since I have adopted new food habits that suit my blood type A+, I’ve lost 2kg in the first 3 weeks. What is the blood type diet? And how does it make itself more efficient and credible than any other diet? Are you tired of diets that don’t work? Then keep reading on.

The blood type diet doesn’t necessarily stand for a weight loss plan, but otherwise, it defines better the way to eat. Just as the name indicates, the aim behind the blood type diet consist of following the correct food habits according to one’s blood type to maximize overall health and establish a harmonious relationship with one’s body. The blood type diet has also decreased the risk factors for cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases as explains Dr. Peter D’Adamo, author of the bestselling books “Eat right for your type” and “Live right for your type”. “The result: high performance, mental clarity, greater vitality, and increased longevity.”

By pointing out the 4 blood groups, 4 different diets are imposed:
  1.  Type Os are best on high protein diets due to their high stomach-acid content: its diet depends on the use of lean, chemical-free meats (except for Bacon, Ham, Goose, and Pork), poultry, and fish while restricting the consumption of legumes, grains, beans and dietary products. Type Os do well mostly on: kelp, seafood, salt, liver, red meat, kale, spinach, and broccoli. Sodas and sparkling water are beneficial to type Os unlikely to other types.
  2. Type As flourish mostly on vegetarian diets, getting their proteins from nuts and seeds, beans and legumes. Meat and dairy are major factors in type A weight gain also, they cause sluggishness. Condiments like ketchup, mayonnaise, pickles and Worcestershire sauce should best be avoided due to Type A low stomach acid content. In addition to that, tomatoes should be exempted from diet. Type As do well mostly on: Pineapple, tofu and soy products. But beware, these foods are commonly genetically modified (risk factor for cancer), search out for Non-GMO alternatives.
  3. Type Bs are best on balanced omnivore diet, they enjoy a wide variety of dairy products. Meat and poultry are fine except for pork and chicken that should better be avoided. It is important to leave off most nuts and seeds especially sesame and peanuts but also corn, buckwheat, and lentils, as they are a major factor in type B weight gain. Type Bs do well mostly on: greens, eggs, licorice and tea.
  4.      Type ABs are best on mixed diet in moderation, since, Type ABs are at times A-like with weak stomach acid, and other times B-like with genetic capacity for the consumption of meats. Type ABs can’t metabolize meat efficiently so it is important to watch the portion size and the frequency. Alkaline fruits and lemon are important components of the diet: the former balances the acid forming in the tissues and the latter balances out the excessive production of mucus. Red meat, Lima and Kidney beans, as well as corn and buckwheat are the major factor in type AB weight gain. Type ABs do well mostly on: Pineapple, tofu, greens and dairy.

Please note that the recipes that will be posted on the wall will be sorted out following the different blood type diets.
