Leaves and Feathers

Jewellery is certainly inspired by seasons and nature; yet, the other catapult kick inspiration for jewelers is most obviously fashion week. As we have seen last February, leaves and feathers are omnipresent on the catwalks. Likewise, there is nothing better than matched jewellery to escort beautifully this trend of season! (already on my christmas list!)

Summer Cold

Last Sunday was the last one I spend with my family before I go back to AUB. While summer is not over yet, I am going on a trip to Medjugorje tonight, Bosnia- Herzegovina for a week and I’m back in Lebanon a couple hours before my first course at college—by the way I checked the weather and I found out that it is raining during my whole stay. Anyway, I’ll tell you all about that later, for now I am going to leave you with the pictures of my Sunday lunch with the fam at Montagnou exquisite restaurant in Faraya!

I was wearing a BDG(from Urban Outfitters London)two-tone denim shorts, ZARA shirt, Blue Bensimon, Marc Jacobs bag and YSL sunglasses!

No-Bake Red Berries Cheesecake

Honestly? I don’t crave cheesecake like I crave chocolate or pudding. But this no-bake invention of mine, the harmony of this blend of savors, is bound to stay etched in my taste buds for a while at least. I invite you to try this quicker (than baked version), lighter (with the choice of ingredients), and intoxicating recipe!

§  Serves 5 to 6, depends on glass size
§  Preparation time: 15-20 minutes

For this no-bake savory cheesecake you will need,

400g of Philadelphia Light cream cheese
1 yogurt serving, vanilla flavored (I used Elle et Vire brand)
20 cl of whipping cream
2 tbsp of Agave or Maple syrup
2 sachet of vanilla sugar

200g of Digestive Biscuit (I used Mcvities Light version)
50g of butter
3 tbsp of Agave or Maple syrup

Raspberry or blueberry jam

50g of baking chocolate
Candied or fresh red berries for decoration

Cookware and Cutlery:
2 large recipients
5 glasses to serve

1-Empty the Philadelphia in a big recipient and add the yogurt. Mix well.

2- Whip the cream in the blender and incorporate it into the cream cheese mixture in circular moves up and down.

3- Add the syrup and the sachets of vanilla sugar. Mix well.
4- Cover with plastic wrap and store in fridge.

1- Grind the biscuit into powder, with the help of a blender if needed.
2- Add the butter and syrup, and mix until homogeneous.
3- The crust can be stored at room temperature.

4- Chop the chocolate and store in fridge.

Setting up:

1- Fill the glass to the level of one finger of crust.
2- Add one thin layer of chopped chocolate.
3- Pour the filling and smooth the surface.
4- Finally, add a layer of Jam and garnish with fruits.

Babel Baher at Amchit

Last Friday, my family and I were invited to the grand opening of the grandiose and majestic lighthouse on the seashore. Yes, the five-star restaurant chain Babel has opened its new doors in Amchit already, a city that is a few kilometers north of Byblos.
When we arrived at destination, what held my attention first was the vastness of the place and the dim lights on the sandy stone walls of the masonry. The car stopped under an Eiffel tower-like construction and the Valet took care of it.

Hosts welcomed us at the first steps of the huge entrance and led us towards the stairs. We then followed our path into a long tunnel that finally opened up to the indoor space of the restaurant—because they do have a terrace. For a moment, I really felt like I was breaking into a sort of Lebanese dream castle. Likewise, the dream went on when I sat on my respective table and chair and lifted up my head to see a ceiling of starry sky lights.

As soon as we sat, waiters rushed to our tables to start serving dinner with the Babel signature assortments of seafood mezze and salads such as, Tabbouleh and Fattouch. (One thing worth noting is that fish substitutes beef and chicken in all dishes, this is a fish restaurant!)

From left to right: Batata mahrousse with abou senn, Tajen Samak, Hendbeh and calamari, Kebbe samak nayye.

And we had to visit the toilets—I’m always curious about the toilets! Obviously, the toilets were impeccable because the place is new. I particularly appreciated the towels that were provided amply instead of toilet paper. Yet, one thing I disliked is that there is nowhere—and I really mean nowhere—for a lady to place her bag while washing her hands.

The double mirror on the sides gives a quadrupling effect on the number of washstands.

I agree with Anthony from NGNO in that the service was impeccable except that the waiters were inviting us too much, nearly pleading, to taste from everything, (but of course, it’s only positive). The sudden moment when I paused on food I felt like I haven’t stopped eating for about 30 minutes—a thing that I have never done before even at weddings or Christmas buffets!

You can find more details about the food here; and I will agree again with Anthony that dessert was the disappointment of the evening. With all the Lebanese sweets we have, it is just unfair to spare that! Instead, we were offered a variety of fresh fruits but also candied fruits and some dessert I discovered there, a mix of “Jazzarieh”—candied pumpkin—haleweh, almond and pistachio nuts.

Candied fruits, from left to right: figs, bou sfeir, dates, areh

After that—yes, we’re not done yet—the waiters proposed to serve us Turkish Cardamom coffee, and then, we left. Walking through the tunnel again I spotted a wooden elevator on the corner a few steps away from the stairs—and of course we took it, we could barely walk with all the food we have eaten!

The inside of the elevator is decorated like an old wooden boat!

To be honest, I’m sure that I’m going to pay Babel Amchit a second visit pretty soon, not only for the food but also because I really want to enjoy having a awesome meal on their must-try terrace!

The terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, developed by the UK's National Physical Laboratory (NPL), aims to identify fake products, which would otherwise be undetectable to the human eye, travelling both into and out of Britain. But how does it work? An electromagnetic radiation beam will be passed over items that will be able to detect the exact composition of the fabric. A unique profile can then be built for each product, based on how the beam reacts - and this profile can then be compared against the profile of suspected counterfeit goods.
