It’s been a hectic week, but a good one I can say. Beirut Design Week launched its third edition with the theme “Social beings” which related Design to humanity, collaboration, as well as social impact. I have organized my time this year to attend more of the conferences and visit less of the exhibitions. The event hosted the Finnish Exhibition and “The Makers” which were launched in Beirut souks upon the opening of BDW on Monday evening. That night, I strolled around the streets of Saifi Village and visited Starch foundation’s exhibit of its new talents, Atelier Nawbar, a fine jewellery boutique with an in-store atelier where you can create your own piece of jewellery, and Bokja, the furniture place that never seizes to surprise me.
The BDW two-day conferences were really an eye-opener for the mega new trend that objects are designed to suit our changing lifestyles more than ever before and also to create a social impact. I also attended the fashion talks at LAU and got the chance to meet Steven Spiegel from NotJustALabel.com. I enjoyed hanging out in Mar Mikhael on Friday night, especially at Vanina store, which exhibited all its collections to date as well as its new one, and at Joe’s Fish party, where I spent a nice time with a lot of my friends and some of them who work there. I will tell you more about the closing party on the next post!
